“Once You’re Married, You’ll Have Kids”
One morning, I buy congee at my favorite congee place near the subway stop in Shenzhen.

The lovely woman selling the congee says:
“You know, you and your boyfriend can be lucky that you can be together like this and aren’t married yet. Once you’re married, you’ll have kids, and then you’re not as free to go wherever you would like to go anymore.”
It doesn’t seem appropriate to tell her that we’re going to get married soon.
Before I can reply, another customer orders congee, and I pay and leave for the subway that will take me to work.
Has anybody ever told you the same?
