Ever since we met, my husband and I have spent every single day together. It’s hard not to when you sit right next to each other in the office. This doesn’t mean that there weren’t times when we were apart, but it was always only for so long.

One time we were separated was when my husband had to fly to Beijing and stay there for 3 days to apply for the visa that would allow him to fly to Austria for our wedding. Another time was when I stayed in Austria for a week longer than he did in order to get our wedding certificate legalized for China.

When I arrive at the train station in Northeast China’s Siping in Jilin province after a week of being apart, his whole family picks me up from the station. I’m five hours late because my flight from Shenzhen was delayed and I couldn’t catch a fast train from Shenyang to Siping.

It has been a long day, and when we finally lie in bed at 3 in the morning, I can’t sleep. I tell my husband and he says: “I can’t sleep either, I’m too excited”.
