Tianjin features many old buildings, as it once had numerous foreign concessions.
It housed Japanese, Italian, British, French, and other concessions, totaling nine foreign concessions by the mid-20th century.
One of the first concessions to be established was the British Concession in 1860, near the end of the Qing Dynasty (which ended in 1912).
Upon exiting the main railway station (Tianjin Station) and walking toward Century Clock Square, you will arrive at a beautiful small square featuring a steel bridge (Jiefang Bridge) and a large clock called the Century Clock, which was built in 1999 to welcome the new millennium.
The railway station is also located near the Haihe River, where visitors can take a walk and enjoy views of Tianjin’s historic buildings as well as the skyline of high-rises.
