The Botanical Garden in Siping

October is usually when the temperatures in Siping fall, turning from rather warm to winter-like. So far, we haven’t had any snow, but temperatures have dropped below 0°C on a few occasions. On certain days, it can still be warm enough, making this a good time to go outside and enjoy nature before it gets too cold.

I chose one day in October to take my children to the Botanical Garden in Siping. Like almost all other sights in Siping, this one has no entrance fee. I don’t know when China introduced the program of waiving fees for such places, but I remember the time when you still had to pay. It is such a blessing, and I believe it was introduced after Covid-19 to encourage people to visit sights, enjoy nature, and do outdoor activities.

Some people may have been so traumatized after Covid-19 that they didn’t dare go outside anymore for fear of germs, which is certainly a justified concern in China, where it is easy to catch something when you’re outdoors. I am not immune either and have had to deal with issues that many travelers or expats face (and that Chinese people do as well), which I am not going to mention here specifically, since that would be TMI.

Anyway, we went to the Botanical Garden, which is located near Siping East Railway Station, the high-speed train station in Siping.

The park has many trees and is easy to walk around in. If you’re a fan of nature and miss plants and trees while living in the city, this is a perfect place to get a dose of fresh air filled with the scent of fall leaves.

It also has a Ferris wheel and other similar amenities, though when we went, they weren’t open. There were also a few outdoor gym facilities.

It’s not truly a tourist attraction, but if you’re in Siping, it makes for a nice weekend outing.
